Border 2 Box Office: Sunny Deol Film Ends at ₹485 Crore
Border 2 ended near ₹485 crore worldwide, with Sunny Deol in the lead. Trade estimates from Koimoi and others, compared with their caveats.

Border 2, the sequel to J. P. Dutta's 1997 war drama, has wrapped its theatrical run as one of the biggest Hindi hits of 2026. It fell short of the ₹500 crore worldwide mark, but it comfortably cleared its reported budget. As always with box office reporting, the exact total depends on the tracker, so the figures below are attributed and should be read as trade estimates.
What the trackers say
Koimoi's closing report gives Border 2 a worldwide gross of about ₹485.3 crore: ₹428.05 crore in India and ₹57.25 crore overseas. Its India net figure is ₹362.76 crore. Against a reported budget of ₹275 crore, Koimoi calculates a return of about ₹87.76 crore, or 31.91 per cent, and labels the film a success with a Plus verdict.
Other sources land lower. Sacnilk lists a worldwide gross of ₹450.19 crore and an India net of ₹329.43 crore, which is about ₹33 crore below Koimoi on India net alone. Wikipedia's entry for the film, which cites Bollywood Hungama, gives ₹464.50 crore worldwide. KS Box Office, in an earlier table, recorded a first-week India net of ₹235.38 crore and a total of ₹345 crore. A spread of roughly ₹35 crore across trackers is normal.
The film and its release
Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by T-Series Films and J. P. Films, Border 2 opened on January 23, 2026, in the Republic Day weekend. Sunny Deol leads an ensemble that includes Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, with Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana and Anya Singh in key roles.
The story is set during the India–Pakistan war of 1971. According to Wikipedia's summary, it draws on five operations from that conflict, including the Battle of Basantar, the air defence of Srinagar and the naval engagement involving INS Khukri. Filming took place in early 2025 at military locations including Jhansi Cantonment, Babina Cantonment and the National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla, and INS Vikrant was used during production.
A strong first weekend
Koimoi's list of 2026 opening weekends places Border 2 third, with ₹129.89 crore net, behind Dhurandhar 2 and Drishyam 3. The opening day was reported at about ₹32 crore by KS Box Office.
Why it matters for Deol
Koimoi also published an analysis noting that with Border 2 Sunny Deol crossed ₹1,200 crore in post-pandemic worldwide grosses across his films. Wikipedia describes Border 2 as the highest-grossing Indian war film of all time, and as the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2026 at the time of its entry.
Deol's year does not end with this release. The cast list for the 2026 Hindi release calendar shows him in Ramayana: Part 1 as Hanuman, and Batwara 1947, which opened on August 14 and was reported as a flop by Koimoi. Border 2 is therefore his clearest hit of the year, and the main reason his 2026 numbers look strong.
How to read the verdict
Verdicts are not universal. Koimoi calls the film Plus, which in its scale means a profitable run. Other outlets use labels like Super Hit. These labels depend on assumed budgets, which are rarely audited. With a reported budget of ₹275 crore, a ₹485 crore result still reads as a moderate return of about 32 per cent.
The bottom line
Border 2 ended as a solid success: about ₹485 crore worldwide on Koimoi's count and ₹450 crore to ₹465 crore on other counts. Its India net of ₹330 crore to ₹363 crore makes it the second-biggest Hindi film of 2026 on Koimoi's list. No tracker lists a loss.
