Ranveer Singh is heading back to work. Variety India reported on October 19, 2026 that the actor is expected to return to the sets of Pralay, Jai Mehta's zombie thriller, on October 27 for a short Mumbai schedule, just over five weeks after he and Deepika Padukone welcomed their second daughter on September 19. It caps a year in which Dhurandhar: The Revenge became one of the biggest Hindi releases on record and his exit from Don 3 turned into an industry dispute. Here is where his work stands, based on what has been reported.

The Pralay return

According to Variety India, Ranveer stepped away from Pralay days before the birth of his daughter. A source told the outlet, "The plan currently is for actor to resume the shoot on October 27 for a short schedule of a couple of weeks. This schedule will be filmed in Mumbai." Variety India added that his next return after that schedule has not been established.

News9 has a narrower version. A source close to the unit told the channel's website, "The shooting is from October 27 to 29th and it will be around the Vashi bridge." News9 also reported that the film began shooting in August at a hospital in Thane, near Ghodbunder Road.

The schedule has already moved once. Variety India reports that Ranveer was originally due to shoot until Diwali before taking paternity leave, and that an earlier schedule planned in Australia was shifted to Mumbai as the couple prepared for the birth.

What Pralay is

Pralay went on floors in Mumbai in August. The Indian Express describes it as a large-scale post-apocalyptic survival thriller set in Mumbai and shot at live locations in and around the city. It is Ranveer's first film in the zombie thriller genre, according to Variety India.

Director Jai Mehta, son of filmmaker Hansal Mehta, co-directed Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, as quoted by The Indian Express, Hansal Mehta said, "It's a post-apocalyptic world that hasn't been attempted before at this scale in India." He added that the story is original and not an adaptation.

Malayalam actor Kalyani Priyadarshan makes her Hindi film debut in the film. Pralay is backed by Ananya Birla's Birla Studios, Hansal Mehta and Sahil Saigal's True Story Films, and Ranveer's own Maa Kasam Films. The Indian Express reports a budget of around ₹300 crore. The supporting cast, full schedule and release date have not been announced.

The Dhurandhar year

Ranveer's last release was Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Aditya Dhar's sequel to Dhurandhar (2025), which opened on March 19, 2026. The Times of India puts its worldwide gross at ₹1,813.39 crore, made up of ₹1,375.39 crore in India and ₹438 crore overseas. Trade estimates differ between trackers, so the exact total depends on the source.

The ensemble included Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna and Arjun Rampal. Wikipedia now lists both Dhurandhar films among the five highest-grossing Indian films. In its October 19 report, News9 said the sequel had been telecast on television the previous Sunday.

The Don 3 dispute

The other big Ranveer story of 2026 is Don 3. He was announced as the new lead of Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's film in August 2023, taking over from Shah Rukh Khan. The Week reports that, after the success of Dhurandhar, he informed the producers he did not wish to continue with the project.

Excel Entertainment has claimed damages of around ₹45 crore, according to India Today. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer in May and later withdrew it, and the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association then stepped in to examine the claim.

Ranveer's side disputes the claim. The Week reported in August that his legal team told the association that only a memorandum of understanding had been signed, not a formal agreement, and that the body had no jurisdiction over the matter. IMPPA president Abhay Sinha told Mid-Day, as quoted by The Week, that the association's legal team was looking into it. Neither report describes a settlement.

What is confirmed and what is not

Confirmed: Pralay is shooting, with Jai Mehta directing and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the cast. Dhurandhar: The Revenge, released on March 19, is his latest film and, by the Times of India's count, a ₹1,813.39 crore worldwide grosser. Ranveer and Deepika's second daughter was born on September 19.

Not confirmed: the exact length of the October schedule, where Variety India and News9 differ, the date of his next return after it, Pralay's release date, and any outcome in the Don 3 dispute.
