Aamir Khan's 2026 has been a year of lower collections and shifting plans. His production Batwara 1947, which opened on August 14, finished as a flop on Koimoi's count. Two smaller films that he backed also earned little. Here is what is confirmed, and what is reported about what comes next.

Batwara 1947

Batwara 1947, formerly titled Lahore 1947, is an Aamir Khan Productions film with Sunny Deol. It opened on August 14, 2026. Koimoi lists its India net at ₹36.7 crore and its worldwide gross at ₹53.01 crore, and labels the film a Flop. Those are trade estimates, and other trackers may differ.

The smaller releases

Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos opened on January 16 and finished at ₹5.52 crore in India. Ek Din, with Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, opened on May 1 and earned ₹3.79 crore. Both numbers are trade estimates and should be read as approximate.

Taken together, Aamir's productions this year have not had a hit on the trackers' tables, a point that follows from the three figures above and not from any single source's commentary.

What is next

The Week reported that a sequel to 3 Idiots is Aamir's next priority. A Dadasaheb Phalke biopic with Rajkumar Hirani is on hold, according to the same reports. Neither has a confirmed release date.

Prahaar

Aamir Khan was initially set to play the prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam in Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam and stepped down. Rajkummar Rao took the role, and the film opened on October 16 with a day-one India net of ₹2.35 crore, according to Sacnilk and the Times of India. We have not found a statement from Aamir on his decision, so we offer no reason.

Compared with other 2026 films

Batwara 1947's ₹53.01 crore worldwide gross is well below Alpha at ₹99.07 crore and Main Vaapas Aaunga at ₹98.85 crore. It is far below the leaders of the year: Dhurandhar The Revenge earned ₹1186.32 crore India net and Border 2 ₹362.76 crore on Koimoi's list.

Sunny Deol, Batwara's co-star, also appears in the top tier of the year's table through Border 2.

Sunny Deol's other film

Batwara 1947 also stars Sunny Deol, whose Border 2 is the second-biggest Hindi film of 2026 by India net at ₹362.76 crore on Koimoi's list. So the same star led one of the year's biggest results and, as co-star, appeared in a Koimoi-labelled flop. Star presence and result are not always linked.

Trackers and labels

Koimoi's Flop label for Batwara 1947 follows from its India net of ₹36.7 crore and worldwide gross of ₹53.01 crore. We did not find a second tracker's figure to compare, so readers should treat the numbers as one source's estimate.

What we do not know

We do not know the budget of Batwara 1947. We do not know whether the 3 Idiots sequel has a script or a director. We have avoided reporting any claims about his plans that we could not attribute.

The bottom line

Aamir Khan's 2026 on the trackers is three releases with modest or weak collections and two ambitious projects on hold or in early development. The 3 Idiots sequel is described as his next priority, but it has no date. The year's numbers are weak, and what comes next is not yet confirmed.
