Main Vaapas Aaunga Box Office: Slow Start, Long Run
Main Vaapas Aaunga started with ₹1.15 crore on day one and closed near ₹99 crore worldwide per Koimoi. Trackers disagree on the verdict.

Main Vaapas Aaunga, Imtiaz Ali's romantic drama starring Diljit Dosanjh, took a very small opening and kept earning for weeks. Released on June 12, 2026, it closed at about ₹98.85 crore worldwide on Koimoi's count. The figures here are trade estimates, and the trackers disagree on the verdict.
The numbers
Koimoi's closing report lists a worldwide gross of ₹98.85 crore: ₹76.87 crore gross in India (₹65.15 crore net) and ₹21.98 crore overseas. Sacnilk's tracker gives a worldwide figure of about ₹99.39 crore. Against a reported budget of ₹70 crore, Koimoi estimates a recovery of roughly 93 per cent and labels the film Losing. KS Box Office, with an India net of ₹66.20 crore, labels it Super Hit.
The gap between a Losing label and a Super Hit label for almost the same collection is one of the widest this year, and it shows how much verdicts depend on the cost assumed. Koimoi's budget figure of ₹70 crore and KS Box Office's cost basis are not disclosed in a way readers can check.
The opening
The opening was small. Koimoi records ₹1.15 crore on day one, ₹5.5 crore for the opening weekend and ₹12.25 crore for the first week. The film finished at roughly five times its first-week India net of ₹12.25 crore, reaching ₹65.15 crore.
That pattern, a slow start followed by steady weekends, is usually driven by word of mouth. The sources reviewed here do not give a detailed audience breakdown, so it would be speculation to say who was buying the tickets.
The people behind the film
Imtiaz Ali directs. Wikipedia's list of 2026 Hindi films gives the cast as Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari and Vedang Raina. Ali's earlier films, including Jab We Met, Rockstar and Tamasha, have a loyal following, and a romantic drama from him arrives with expectations that go beyond opening-day figures.
Sharvari also stars in Alpha, which released three weeks later, on July 3. That meant two of her films were in theatres within a month, and both ended near ₹99 crore worldwide on Koimoi's count, at ₹98.85 crore and ₹99.07 crore.
Compared with other mid-budget films
Main Vaapas Aaunga's ₹98.85 crore worldwide is close to Alpha's ₹99.07 crore, but the budget gap changes the story: Alpha's reported budget was ₹100 crore and Koimoi's recovery figure for it is 59 per cent. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which opened a week before it on June 5, closed at ₹87.78 crore worldwide on Koimoi's count.
Among the June releases covered in this issue, only Welcome to the Jungle and Cocktail 2 grossed more worldwide, at ₹196.11 crore and ₹166.3 crore on Koimoi.
What the figures do and do not show
Main Vaapas Aaunga's earnings are clear enough: about ₹99 crore worldwide, about ₹65 crore to ₹66 crore net in India, and a first week that accounted for under a fifth of the final India net. What is less clear is whether it was a good outcome. Koimoi says the film did not recover its reported cost. KS Box Office says it was a Super Hit. Both cannot be right on the same assumptions, so the difference is in the assumptions.
For readers, the practical takeaway is to compare gross collections across trackers and to treat verdict labels as one tracker's opinion.
